Sow in small pots indoors in warm, moist conditions
Transfer to 9 inch pots when the first two sets of try leaves appear
When potting on, you can bury most of the stem in the soil (the hairs will form roots!)
Plant Care
When the flowers appear, transfer again to larger pots for indoor growing, or plant directly to soil outside
Water regularly to make sure the soil is kept evenly moist
Feed with organic fertiliser every 14 days if possible
Use organic tomato feed once fruit start to appear
Pinch off any side shoots that appear at the joints of the main shoots to ensure the plant's energy is not diverted from producing fruit
AllotMe’s Tips
Tomato plants do really well when grown in a greenhouse or polytunnel, but remeber to open the doors or vents to allow pollinators in!
There are 2 different types of tomato plants: Determinate (bush) and Indeterminate (vines): the latter will need to be staked to provide support
Tomato blight can be a killer for your crop, so make sure to remove any affected by it, and bury the damaged materials away from your plants (also clean any stakes or supports nearby)
