How to Sow
- Choose a sunny or partially shaded position with good air circulation
- Dig in plenty of well-rotted manure or compost before planting
- Space bushes 1.2-1.5m apart
- Plant at the same depth as the pot or nursery mark
- Firm in well and water thoroughly
Plant Care
- Mulch in spring with compost to retain moisture and suppress weeds
- Water during dry periods, especially when fruit is swelling
- Prune in winter to an open goblet shape — remove crossing and congested branches
- Net against birds and watch for sawfly caterpillars which can strip leaves quickly
- Feed with a general-purpose fertiliser in early spring
